For senior researchers, the ten-month stay at the Collegium would generally be covered by either a sabbatical year granted by their home institution, or a secondment agreement between that institution and the Collegium de Lyon. It is the responsibility of Fellows to request their home institution or other foundations to cover all or part of their salary. The Collegium de Lyon will provide an allowance to each Fellow, calculated on a case-by-case basis.
Fellows will negotiate their total salary packages with the President of the Collegium de Lyon before their arrival. Packages are constructed on a case-by-case basis, with provision for reimbursement of costs incurred, such as relocation and transport costs during the stay. Remuneration levels vary depending on the duration of the stay, distance to the country/city in which the Fellow's home institution is located and accompanying family. Although spouses' usual salaries are not taken into account, the possibility of finding them a position in the region will form part of the negotiations.
Moreover, the Collegium de Lyon will endeavour to cover general expenses relating to the stay (postage, stationery, photocopying, etc.). The extent to which telephone charges are covered will be negotiated individually by Fellows, up to a maximum amount; charges above this limit will be invoiced to the Fellow. The contract with Collegium de Lyon does not include social security cover or insurance costs, which are the responsibility of the Fellow; however, they may be covered under exceptional circumstances.
Based on negotiations in parallel with those described above, the Collegium will make up the salaries of otherwise non-remunerated junior researchers to acceptable levels.
